We are on Week 3 of our 12-week The Artist’s Way journey! As a part of our creative process, we’re jumping on Substack Live and sending a newsletter every Monday to talk through our past week and new goals. If you missed it, we’re doing a creative reset for the next 12 weeks and have invited you to join us, too. (It’s free and something you can do on your own time.)
Week 2 started with an earthquake (literally) and kept growing from there. Here’s what worked for us, where we saw magical signs, and how we kept going even when we didn’t want to.
✍️ How many days did you write morning pages?
Sam: 5/7
Viv: 5/7
👀 What was your Artist’s Date?
Sam: National Museum of the American Indian in DC
Viv: A $100 budget to buy things outside of my “usuals” that sparked joy and an afternoon baking snickerdoodle cookies
✨ Did you notice any synchronicities?
Sam: YES! First, museums always turn on my creative brain in unexpected ways. There were moments in the museum where I paused, felt an almost-eery sense of recognition + presence, and then kept moving. One of the tasks from The Artist’s Way mentioned drums–there was a drumline I walked by after the museum that really did stir something inside of me. I also played with the drums in the museum gift shop. It feels like something is starting to “beat” finally.
Viv: Yes! We shared about it during our Substack live, but the TL;DR is that I was talking out loud to the Universe during lunchtime in the middle of the week, asking for a very clear sign. I needed something that I couldn’t second guess. Not 20 minutes later, Sam randomly sent me a voice note with a message she felt called to share with me — believe in miracles and good things aligning. I was blown away.
🏃♀️➡️ How are you keeping momentum?
Sam: I’m putting less pressure on myself to write neatly or in one notebook. This last week I did some pages on my computer while I was traveling and it felt reassuring that I didn’t have to do this in any orthodox way.
Viv: I am pushing myself to do my pages even when I don’t think I have anything to say. On those days, I just write my grocery list or list of to dos and eventually it gets me going into different tangents.
If you’re doing The Artist’s Way with us, we’d love to hear how it’s going! Are you keeping up with your pages? What artist dates have you gone on? We can include some of your feedback in next week’s Substack.
