Over the holiday break I rediscovered my love for romance books. At some point in the last decade, I’d put down contemporary romance for memoir or other novels. I have no idea why. I love them so much. They’re the perfect escape. Some are spicier than others, but all are a cozy weekend reads that remind you that reading is supposed to be fun. And that given the start of the year we’re having — escaping into bookland for a bit isn’t a bad idea.
Here are some of the books I’ve read so far.
Big Fan by Alexandra Romanoff — Amazon, Bookshop
A friend sent me this book for my birthday. I kept imagining the male character as Harry Styles because it very obviously pulls from a contemporary boy band. Romanoff Romanoff does a great job at packing a great story into a short read. It’s a politics meets entertainment romance that tops my list of favorites.
When In Rome Series by Sarah Adams — Amazon, Bookshop
I am Sarah Adams’ new biggest fan. Her “When In Rome” series is fun, lighthearted, and full of books you won’t want to put down. The series follows a family of siblings who are finding love in their small town after their parents’ death. I swooned for all the characters and how their romances unfolded.
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston — Amazon, Bookshop
The holidays and beginning of the year are a little harder on my grief (January is my mom’s death anniversary), so I blame my own grief for how long it took me to get through Poston’s lovely, deeply feeling romance novel. While it has many griefy undertones, it’s still so sweet, romantic, and enthralling.
